Cambridgeshire County Council is committed to attracting, retaining and developing the best people. We take your career as seriously as you do.
Employee development
In early 2008, Cambridgeshire County Council were successfully reaccredited with Investors In People status, demonstrating our commitment to delivering the highest standards, by planning ways we can improve, through investment in our staff. As part of this on-going commitment, our Organisational Development and Learning Team are in place to assist with all your learning and development needs.
Personal and professional development
Training and Development is a high priority in the Council. Your personal and professional development are key to enhancing your skills and the Council’s performance. You will have an annual appraisal and will work to a jointly agreed personal development plan.
Courses and learning
The Organisational Development and Learning Team manage a large portfolio of courses ranging from formal qualifications to shorter courses and day courses, covering a broad range of abilities from Office Administration and ICT Skills, to formal accredited Management and Executive Management Diploma’s, and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) ranging from levels 3 – 5.
The Council also recognises that people prefer to learn in different ways and can offer training to suit all learning styles, ranging from formal classroom tuition to vocational ‘on-the-job’ training and e-learning. Additionally we can arrange individual or tailored sessions to ensure that you are fully equipped to deliver the highest levels of service.
Benefiting through balancing your work and life
The Council is increasingly committed to supporting employees in managing their work-life balance at all levels. We have pioneered flexible working practices, allowing employees (depending on organization needs) to be flexible in terms of working hours (flexi-time), number of hours and working location.
Pensions
We offer membership of the Local Government or Teachers Pension scheme depending on the type of job. These schemes both offer a final salary pension scheme. For each year of service you will get a pension of 1/60th of your final years pay. This is increased in line with inflation. You can choose to take this from age 60. Benefits also include a death in service grant, survivor’s benefits, ill-health cover and ways to increase your pension, transfer in other pensions or take a lump sum at retirement. For more details see www.lgps.org.uk or www.teacherspensions.co.uk.
Leave
Your receive between between 23 and 30 days annual leave, excluding bank holidays, depending on: your type of contract, how many hours you work and how long you have worked in local government. On top of this we offer a range of flexible working options that allow you and your manager to design a pattern of working that suits the service and your individual circumstances.
Take advantage of a range of additional benefits
We also have an ever-increasing range of personal benefits – including options for Healthcare, Childcare, Gym Membership, Car Loans and membership of the CamCard staff benefits card – providing discounts for employees on a wide range of local facilities, goods and services.
