But what else can we offer you?
Full details of the terms and conditions of employment with Cambridge City Council will be given to you when you join, but here are some points that may interest you:
Salary
Salary awards are nationally determined. Each post is graded and you will be paid at a point within that grade. Each grade has a defined ‘entry zone’ and it is City Council policy that appointments will generally be made within the ‘entry zone’ of the post’s pay band. Appointments above the ‘entry zone’ are agreed by the appointing manager and Head of Human Resources, depending on the post and the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate.
We have an annually negotiated pay increase and progression through the salary scale is based on performance in your job. There is no automatic progression within the pay bands, progression will be determined by reference to a number of criteria including performance and achievement of objectives.
Part-time posts are remunerated pro rata to hours of work.
Pension
City Council employees may be entitled to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The LGPS is a ‘Final Salary’ Pension Scheme and forms a valuable part of the Council’s reward package. The scheme provides a future income at a reasonable cost to the employee, paid through employee contributions as a percentage of earnings (from 5.5% to 7.5% dependant on earnings level). These employee contributions are supplemented by employer contributions making the scheme a real benefit.
The scheme also provides for:
· life cover and pension for spouse/civil partner/co-habiting partner and children in the event of your death; and
· ill-health benefits should you become seriously ill.
There are further options available to allow employees to increase their contribution payments to boost their pension
Full details of the scheme can be found on the LGPS website www.lgps.org.uk
